Canan Karakaya

Research Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Canan KarakayaDr. Karakaya is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CSM. She earned her PhD degree in Technical Chemistry from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2012. Her PhD thesis focused on developing heterogeneous reaction mechanisms for reforming of methane and propane over Rh catalysts.

After completing her postdoctoral study under the supervision of Prof. Robert J. Kee, Dr. Karakaya was promoted to research assistant professorship in the CSM, mechanical engineering department. During her postdoctoral study, she developed heterogenous reaction mechanisms for gas-to-liquid processes over bifunctional molybdenum zeolite catalysts and catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons over zeolite catalysts. She developed methods for focused-ion-beam-scanning-electron-microscope to understand the of the structure of automotive catalytic converters.

She is currently working on various chemical processes including oxidative coupling of methane, SiC epi-growth and H2 generation from reforming of ethanol.
