Seongmook Cho

Research Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering

Headshot of Dr. ChoDr. Cho is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado School of Mines in the Continuous Casting Center. He received his B.S. (2007), M.S. (2009), and Ph.D (2014) in materials science and engineering from Pohang University of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea. He was then a postdoctoral research associate at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2015-2017) and Colorado School of Mines (2017-2018).

Dr. Cho’s primary research interests are in the area of metals processing. His research focuses on developing computational models of the continuous steel casting and validating the models with lab-scale model experiments and plant measurements to gain deeper insights into defect formation mechanisms, and to find practical strategies for improving the process.
